Ominous Black Beach Vik in Iceland

The appearance of black sand is due to volcanic lava. Hundreds of years ago after the eruption lava flowed down to the ocean and after - froze. Seawater slowly smashed pieces of lava into small particles and threw them on the shore.

In addition to the incredible color of the sand, the fantastic landscape of the beach is complemented with huge boulders and basalt columns. Local residents believe that those are the trolls petrified in the sun. Basalt black columns appeared as a result of sea water exposure to the coastal cliffs.

Landscapes of Iceland are unusual in many respects. But nothing can match the Black Beach. Unreal fantastic views of the place brought it the popularity in the world of cinema. The shooting of science fiction is often held there, Iceland has all the conditions for horror or “afterlife” movies.
